Again with the PRS Soapy II re-wire question...

Okay, I'm not stupid, but I'm backward when it comes to this stuff.

A while back, someone here (Don? Kap'n?) told me I'd get a better sound from my PRS Soapy II if I moved one simple wire. It was described as such (cut 'n' pasted from the old thread).....

"It's just moving the wire connecting the volume pot to the tone pot. It's usually on one of the end lugs. Move it to the center."

Well...... am I moving the end on the volume pot, or the tone pot?

Thanks. I swear, with Bog as my witness, that I will actually finally take five minutes and do this.

It's the wire that connects the volume pot to the tone pot.

Move the connection from the "hot" side of the volume pot to the center lug.

    Got it. Finally.

I may be slow, but I eventually git-r-done.

    Thank you, sir.

While you're at it, remove the small treble bypass cap from accross the volume pot's lugs.

You shouldn't need it after moving the wire from the tone pot.

On a guitar like this, anything that makes the circuit simpler is better, right?

I think of this thing as my "crude" hard-rcoking electric, while the Zencaster is the modern, sophisticated superstrat.

Although I got some real convincing old-school jazz tones out of it for a recent jingle thing.... these P-90-like pups are versatile.

A luthier friend (a real luthier, a guy who builds guitars from scratch and sells them for 3K and up) that I did a favor for just came by and picked up Soapy... he's giving it a new nut in exchange for a casette-rescue ting I did for him a while back.

When it comes home, it will get the wire swap, and then... perfecto. :)

The nut is the cheasiest thing on the whole guitar.
I'd like to replace mine but, although it looks crappy, it works fine and I'm lazy.

What kind of nut is he putting on it?

Mine didn't work so good, Don. I think the guitar was strung with 9's at the factory, and when I put 10s on it I developed some tuning problems... the slots are too snug. And it is the cheesiest thing about the guitar, isn't it?

He's cutting a nice Gibson-y bone nut for it.

I think after I get it back I'm going to do the wiring mod, put a Santana pickguard on it, and call it done. I'm really liking the pickups fine now that I have them adjusted where I want.

Mine had a very poorly cut, high nut when I bought it. I knew I could tweak it though (and did).

Are you really going to put a Santana pickguard on it?

    Yeah, I think I am!

I ordered one, and it came today. I think it'll look snazzy.

Natch, Dawson still has my damn guitar.... maybe this weekend.

I'm not drilling any holes if it looks stupid.

Sure, I could put it to vote.... I'll post pics of the guard taped on when I get the guitar back, and gather opinion.

Cool! I'll try to remain open minded.

One of the many things that I like about the PRS SE Soapbar II is it's clean, simple design and was disappointed when PRS put a pickguard on the SE Santana.

Well, I'm supposed to get the guitar back tomorrow morning, so pictures will be coming then (Tuesday, that is).

Just out of interest, what do pickguards look like on Santanas? I've never seen one.

You're supposed to let us influence your decision on the color and flavor of the plastic too.

Jim- Will yours be cut for P90's?
The space may be diff that that btw the Santana's HBs.

Re: Again with the PRS Soapy II re-wire question...

Nope, not cut special for p-90s, and the space IS different, which is my only concern... under the neck pup and above the bridge, there'll be about a 1/4" of wood showing (or so they tell me... I still haven't had the guitar and the pickguard in the same room).

If the gap looks nasty, I'll send it back.
