    Valco Supro amp on EBAy

    <URL: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=016 >

    -- tHIS MAKES ME ILL! tHIS IS BASICALLY Y the same amp ( in moderatly better condition) I had that i sold for 300.00.Mine had the same tubes , same tweed, same but mine was a gtretsch valco and the chassis and cabinet wrwre different and mine was a "bass" amp. Basically my Gretsch valco was same amp different size cabinet , also with original jensen. It sounded graet, but nothing earth shattering. Worlds apart form a Fender Tweed. I think people are expecting to get identical tweed sounds off this amp. Aint gonna happen. This is a crazy price for this amp. Its not that good. I guess people are looking to pair it with their supro guitars.
    I basically used the 300.00 I got for my Gretsch valco and turned around and bought a Traynor YBa-1a Bassmaster in exceelent condition( to mod into a plexi someday) , so I guess im okay, but still..

    Wow.

    I have a guy that's willing to sell me an amp like this for 150 to 200 bucks.

    I think it's time I picked up the phone...

    That's just about the cleanest example of a Thunderbolt I've ever seen. I used to be on the hunt for Supros (esp. the 1x10 or 1x12 guitar amps with the single chassis) and they used to be reasonably priced. They were a well-kept secret. But the cat's out of the bag now...I'd never pay that much for one - they were constructed fairly decently but certainly not THAT well. Wow, that's spendy!

    Be aware that not all Supros are created equally.

    The one with a turquoise faceplate. It's a looker, but a sonic D-O-G.

    There's also a groovy champ-like one with series string tubes (50L6 power tube) that's a real screamer. Of course, if you have that one, an isolation transformer is in order.
    Several guitars in different colors
    Things to make them fuzzy
    Things to make them louder
    orange picks

    You have to hand it to the guy for NOT citing Jimmy Page, or Led Zeppelin I.

    Yeah a buddy of mine has one of those. It sounds great, cranked, with a lap steel guitar, and very Zeppelin-ish with a Tele.

    They're worth at least 3 bills now - according to ebay - I think they're great but limited in usefulness and would never pay more than $150 for one. My buddy bought two little amps that day (one was an Airline) and got both for $150 total. But that was like 8 years ago.

    I wish I'd picked up a pair of those for $85 apiece when they were just ratty little amps in a pawn shop. D'oh!

    I think it's the rumors of a Zep world tour.
