Re: SRV STRAT VS JOHN MAYER STRAT

Lo and behold! I never counted the holes! My SRV has an 8-hole pickguard and I really want to swap it out (and I don't want to add three holes). I checked and even ebay has a limited supply -- and not in the bitchin white pearl! Any one else reccomend a good supply house to find a cool 8-hole pickguard?

8 hole single layer? on a SRV?!

    I could see a 9-hole, maybe.

This is my SRV strat and although it is a poor picture, you can see it has only 8-holes. I thought they were all (SRVs) supposed to be that way!

And I'm still on the hunt for an 8-hole white pearl pickguard (now that I know how friggin cool it looks!) Any advice anyone?

Eureka! I had been searching for one and the cheapest one I found was $49 + shipping. At $38 I pulled the trigger on it immediately! Thanks! (from me and my SRV!)

    8-holes on SRVs... Who knew?

I just never paid that much attention to that model. Assumed based on the 59-63 guitars he usually played that it would have an 11 hole guard.

Learn something here all the time!

    Huh...

Just saw one at the local GC on Friday, and didn't notice if it was an 8 or 11 hole.
    "...pray do not imagine that those who make the noise are the only inhabitants of the field;
that, of course, they are many in number; or that, after all, they are other than the little,
shriveled, meagre, hopping, though loud and troublesome, insects of the hour."

All SRVs are 8 hole guards because Stevies No 1 had a 1959 body which had a 8 hole guard. In mid 1959 Fender change to a 11 hole 3ply guard.

even though all the physical evidence points to #1 being a 63?

Here is the Custom Shop SRV inspection on Stevie actual No#1. On the shot of the back of the body with trem springs removed it looks like 63 is penciled. http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=RCp0Shxmozk

+1 on the '62 reissue. I like the foam green but I change my mind on colors frequently. The general specs of this guitar are my favorite. Pickups can always be altered.

One thing I always hated was that Fender put the artists signature right on the front of the headstock. Thats kind of cheesy. At least the Mayer Strat has his scribble on the back. EJ's is cool too with the little guy on the neck plate.

I agree about the signature thing. A real signature in pen by an artist is ok, but the stenciled signature of an artist on a guitar is tacky. The guitars should be a faithful re-creation of the artists instrument without signatures.

Do all the SRV Signature Strats have a urethane finish or did some years have Nitro? How thick is the urethane finish?

Mayers pups were a take off of the Texas Specials...only with the mids scooped. I didnt think the Mayers were "bluesy" enough so I took them out.

I see a lot of people claiming this. Is this official information? From where?
