    "Bass Nut" question

I want to put heavier flat wound strings on my kids Bronco Bass. It has lights on it now.

It has .040-.095 on it now I think they are lights. I want to go to at least .045-.100. Will I have to file the nut wider, or will they just fit. I don't want to break the ends of the nut.

I know with guitars, I can change some gages and they just wedge in there are work fine.

Oh, and I got the new Seymour Duncan Cool Rail Neck pickup from Jim in Texas to put into it!

You might need to actually try them in teh nut and file to match. You might also find that the winding at the bass of the string might be too large to fit through the bridge without filiing out or reaming just a nano-smidge (or one micro-smidge if you don't have that calibration)

That should work OK. That's not a lot of difference in bass strings.

You just have to place the new strings in the nut and see if they seriously bind up or not before installing them.

I highly recommend buying strings from the Dude at Vintagebass.com.

They have flats.. one brand.. 34" scale...
Now if I had called to see if they had what I wanted in the first place, I never would have wrecked my car...
