    dang I bought another one

I got a killer deal from McKenzie River Music on this stripped Musicmaster:

    Shall it be-
    Fiesta Red?
    Daphne Blue?
    Shell Pink?
    Or something else?

I don't have it yet, but I'll post more details when I have it in my hands. It was most likely Oly White or Maroonburst.

Shell pink. Daphne would be my second choice. That'll be a cool guitar for sure, no matter what color you pick.

(Oops, sorry Fezz, I mean, unless you choose CAR. Then it'll suck ass. )

Re: dang I bought another one

Shell Pink is my first choice, w/a light amber top coat. My next Strat project will be Peacock Blue
    Possible mods:
    Duosonic conversion, w/a Strat-style bridge/br&mid/middle p'up config
    6105 frets & bone nut
    Pearloid pg

It looks pretty good as it is now. It might just be the angle/lighting, but the natural wood looks light red. It kind of reminds me of the middle part of a three-tone sunburst :)

Yea, i like the colour of it in that picture. The grain looks cool too, imo. But almost whatever you do to it will look cool. Almost whatever. Theres always room for bad judgement. :ahem

Certainly I have an opinion as I am a and we all have opinions and well...but at any rate I VOTE FIESTA RED which would be awesome with that beatiful fretboard - and my second choice would be the Daphne
but go ahead do what you like 7818 you gonna anyways :yay
also the dual pups will be quite nice! Can't wait to follow this project along.

    I know I will;)
But still like to hear what people think. And you never can tell... it could end up FRed!;) ;)
See that little nebula thingie right above the input jack? It gets really curly on the back. Who knows? Maybe it should be a Three-Tone burst!

Much like Keira Knightly's wardrobe, anything see through gets my vote

I'm intrigued by the curl you describe, 71818...if you do decide on a solid colour, we need pics before you finish it

    I like the red/grain look.
But if you're pressed for time, maybe fiesta red...

Re: dang I bought another one

That red "stuff" that was on the body was very poorly done. It was more evident in hand than in the pics. The original color was Desert Sand (beige). The staining of the grain (who knows how many colors it has been? It looks like it had been black at one time) prohibits any trans colors at thins point.
Here is the neck, w/the frets ripped out, sanded w/my handy-dandy radiused sanding block from StewMac, & the fret slots resawn:

    A close-up of the headstock:

Detail of some gouges made when some goober "replaced" the nut:

The gouges were way worse before I sanded the fretboard down. Now the fun begins! 6105 fretwire is next.

Awwww ooohhh! That is SO NICE!! WOW. that neck looks beautiful now. You have made me rethink about my duo-sonic "1.5" project now.... I guess if the outcome ain't half as pro a job as that, it's not worth doing, as it has that historical value.

Now, that guitar would make a STATEMENT! It'd take some real cajones to play a guitar like that.

I know; I think it looks cool, & would have worked well w/a lot of those '60s pastel colors. The one I really wanted has been discontinued. Chandler used to make 'guards out of stuff like this:

When I found out they no longer carried it, I bought a couple made from other materials. I can always switch it out when I get an abalone one in the future.

Re: dang I bought another one

I have always dug the sound of a Musicmaster but couldn't get on with the short scale and tuning issues so whipped up this little beauty as sort of an "adult size" Musicmaster. Funny, I never considered pink, but it's starting to grow on me too.

Re: dang I bought another one

Thanks Kap'n. It's what Warmoth calls "Gold Top Gold" and is actually pretty accurate. It's sort of a Gibson theme on a Fender shape. This guitar it's lots of fun to play just like a Musicmaster. People always do a double take and ask in astonishment why I didn't put the other p'ups in it, and why the neck p'up? Not the bridge?

Musicmasters are really cool. And like Esquires, they demand that the player be resourceful in order to get a variety of sounds out of it. Mine doesn't even have a visible tone pot! Simplicity!

Do they ever ask you why it's a 25 3/4 scale length? :hee

Re: dang I bought another one

LOL! I don't readily offer that info fezz because then I'd have to tell them "it's beacuase I'm a dumbass!"

In all honesty, I can't remember if I did intentionally or not. I made templates to cut fretboards for 24 3/4" and 25 1/2" so I can't remember if I didn't use the templates because I wanted to suffer and do it by hand, or because I mistook 25 3/4" for 24 3/4". The cool thing about it though, is that a 25 3/4" scale plays very slinky. For some reason it's not as tight as a 25 1/2" scale. Could just be this neck, but Musicmasters play very slinky too. Hmmmmmmm, maybe I shoud try to find a Musicmaster p'up for it.
