Anybody hear the Hoodoo Band play? Just wondering how they did.

Just got word that 2 different Blues groups from the Long Island are each have their acoustic duos in the finals. Didn't hear about the bands that were sent there.

    Partial list of the finalists:

    Breeze Kings
Diana Greenleaf and the Blue Mercy Band
    Teeny Tucker Band
    Whoodoo Band
    Joey Gilmore
Lady Sunshine and the X Band
    Johnny Reed and the Houserockers
    Debbie Ritter & 4-40 Blues

    Winners:
    First - Joey Gilmore
Second - Diana Greenleaf and the Blue Mercy Band
Third - Lady Sunshine and the X Band

These are heresy from a friend that was at the finals so don't kill the messenger if I'm wrong.

Found a good review out of St. Louis and will post more if I see any. Unfortunately, the IBC hasn't updated yet.

Re: International Blues Challenge - Memphis

Before I forget, since I've been so goshdarn sick this week.... I'm sorry I missed most of you on Beale during the competition and only got a minute to say hello to the couple that did drop by. (Not good manners, Shoe ) and I truly wanted to see and hear all of you but couldn't leave the judges at New Daisy.

Did anybody get judges scores back or any feedback at all? How was your experience? Good, bad, awful, fun?

Maybe next year we'll only work one night and get to party at least one night!

We had fun. Our sets were fun and hanging out, going to the jams, etc was fun. Not making it to the finals was not so much fun, but oh well. :blbros

Sorry to hear it....but it's still so cool just being a part of that scene.
Just talked to our chick singer today, who's been out of circulation while dealing with health issues, divorce/remarriage, plus having a kid, etc....
    ugggh.
But, she's back to her old self, lookin' great and ready to wail again. Hopin' we can get the band back up and running real soon and get some miles behind us this year. Sure would like another trip to Beale if we could get it....and I think we have the goods to get there.

I think so, too, Pat. You made it once. Why not again?

A few things I picked up from the judges, but I guess are also in the "how we score" if you really read them....

    1. Don't do covers at all, no matter how good they are. Original songs are the key to the finals.
    2. Have your band and act tight and put on a show to please the crowd and the judges.
    3. Set list!!!!! and watch for the timer sitting next to the judges.
    4. Its hard to come up with anything that hasn't already been done on stage but originality and freshness gets the judges attention.
