Went to the Ohio Guitar Show--SCORE!!! (now w/clips!)

Dangit. I really didn't plan to get another Tele, but I couldn't resist when I saw this one for $550. Sounds fantastic too--I'll post some sound samples. This is my first P-90. I initially bought it with the idea of putting a humbucker in the neck, but I'll wait a month or so to see what the p-90 does for me. I'm loving it today, but I'll leave room for new-guitar-itis.

It's a 2000 American Series, just like my blue Tele. Fender only offered them with the RW board for about a year. The guard isn't stock, since it looks like he routed it himself for the P-90. The P-90 is a Duncan, and the bridge pup is a Duncan Vintage Lead Stack. I really like the way he took the pickguard material and put it on the bridge pup. Pretty cool.

Re: Went to the Ohio Guitar Show--SCORE!!!

The really funny thing is that I promised myself "no new Teles" unless I found something in natural ash.

But then I fell in love with a '98 Red (Sorry Fezz :)) American Deluxe Tele with a RW board that had been modded with 52RI pups. It was $600 w/OHSC, and I was all over it. I whipped out my checkbook and the a-holes said "Sorry, no checks." They do a lot of cash biz at these shows obviously, but I've bought things at them before with checks, but these buttheads flat out refused. Showed 'em my government ID and my Ohio OL, etc., but they wouldn't budge.

I told them "your loss" and headed out out down the one aisle I hadn't checked out yet, and there was the ash/rw Tele. Fate. It was fate.

    Gotta go play it now.

Moon, I haven't weighed it yet, but I'd estimate it about half a pound heavier than my blue (alder) Tele. I'll check later and let you know.

Nice guitar pc. It's a Tele, and it's got a P90 in it. What's not to like!

I'll definitely flip the plate. Also (another shout to Tele-Bob) I will probably get some nice Kluson-type tuners for this one, and I might see if I can track down that guy that was selling 3-barrel saddles that retrofit right onto an American Series bridge. Barrels would be nice on this guy, I think. I'll see if I can find that thread.

Thanks Bigs--I'll do a jam with it in the next two days--probably Tuesday evening--and I'll try to use both pickups clean and with some OD. I am REALLY digging the P-90 thing right now.

Really? I have to tell you, he was super-cool to me. He'd actually tentatively agreed to sell it to another guy, and when I offered a bit over the asking price, he said, "No, that's okay, I'll sell it for the asking price."

I think he probably was gonna get below the asking price from the first dude, but I just think it's cool that even though he could have gotten even more money from me, he passed.

Anyway, I'll love it way more than the first dude would have.

fetchzee, is that guy (Sean) a player in the central Ohio area? He was at the Columbus Blues Alliance booth and had one of their tags on, but I don't know if he works for them or not.

Thanks Steve. Wasn't it you that had a thread about a year or so ago about finding a guy who made compensated barrel saddles for American Series bridges?

If it was, can you shoot me an email with the info on pricing and contacting him? I had the guy's info once, but now I can't find it. Thanks bro.

Sean's one of the coolest guys I know. He plays with Teeny Tucker and Driving Wheel regionally, and he's on the Columbus Blues Alliance Board.

He's also hands down one of the best players I've ever heard in my life.

Thanks for the info fetchzee--I just noticed your email address--is it possible there's another guitar-playing lawyer from Columbus at TFF? :)

BTW--I've definitely heard Teeny Tucker before--they play her stuff on Blue Collar all the time--had no idea Sean was in that group. The guitarist on those recordings is fantastic.

Wow--double thanks to SteveB--glad I didn't email that dude before hearing from you. I'll check out that link ASAP. Thanks! :yay

BlueF & JM3--glad you guys like it. I'm at work now and all I can think about is going home to play it some more.

Er... I mean, going home to see my wife and baby, and then my new guitar. Yeah, that's what I meant.

Reversing the switch plate, Dan, so the knobs are toward the front and the switch towards the rear.

I might have to give that Voodoo P90 a try again in the neck of my Tele. I'm in no hurry, though. The Voodoo chrome pickup sounds just fine and dandy.

PC,that is one of the best lookin' teles I've ever seen---And with a rosewood board to boot!!
I think that pup combo might spoil you---I had a friend do the same thing, and the tone was great.A 'bucker in the front always seems to outweigh the bridge pup,IMHO.
Congrats on the new addition---it's a keeper!

pc- flippin' dat switch is a must! I just got my old "Sofacaster" back & it has the plate flipped w/the volume right under the bridge pickup. Great for volume swells. I also lost the switch & tone control; that potentiometer is now a blend/fade between the two pickups.

Dan, this probably goes without saying, but it didn't for me at first.

In order to make that really meaningful, you also have to switch the positions of the Tone & Volume pots so that the Volume pot is therefore directly under your hand, as 71818 says.

I went to flip the plate on my blue Tele and thought, "Um... wait a minute, this puts the volume exactly where it was before." So I had to ask someone here first just to verify that I am, in fact, a complete moron.

Anyway, I love it on my blue Tele, and I'll have this one flipped by the weekend for my gigs. :)

Nice score, pc! That's a great deal too. I think you're going to like the P-90 in the neck position. My Aerodyne Tele has the same configuration, but with Fender pickups. I love the tone with both the P-90 and the Tele Bridge pup engaged. P-90s RULE!!!

You also have to flip the switch as it's mounted to the plate. Though I suppose a guy could adjust to some backwards things.

I'd make three Columbus lawyers on TFF. Didn't make it to the guitar show, but it's been hit or miss the last few years. Looks like a good guitar from a super nice guy (never seen him play a tele...usually just plays a hollowbody of some sort--mostly a 135 or similar).
