    Non-fender Teles

So, obviously there are a TON of non-fender custom Telecasters out there. I am in the market for a NICE tele, and want to explore my options. Any pointers, websites, or testimonials?

    Thanks,
    Donut

hiya. If you go to the Ishibashi site, in their U Box they often have Duncans...yes as in Seymour..., Van Zandts... same company of pick up fame...,Bacchus, Kids and others. If you contact Koichi, tell him what you`re lookin for he can let you know what they have. I own 2 Duncans and 2 Van Zandts, and I say they are as well made or better than my Fender USA custom shops. Not sure how much you wanna spend but used Duncans can be had for about the xsame price as a Fender USA. The Van Zandts cost more but they are superb guitars. I own several Bacchus guitars and they are great teles, though I`ve swapped the pups for Duncans some folks like theirs, and they make their own for their line of guitars. Good hunting and keep us posted on the tele quest.

My choice was a Lentz Tele (and later a companion Lentz Strat.) Do a search on "Lentz" on this website or go over to Harmony Central for lots of testimonials. Scott's a master craftsman and a great guy to work with.

    Suhr Classic T

I recommend the John Suhr Classic T. Every time I have compared a Suhr Classic T to a Fender Custom Shop/Relic, the Suhr crushed the Fender. Not even close. John use to be a master builder in the Fender CS. IMHO, he's building the best Strat and Tele-type axes one can find.

I've got a Chapin TBird (www.chapinguitars.com) - extremely highly recommended. Bill is a killer builder, will carve the neck to match one of your faves, work with you on all details. The guy lives and breathes tone!

Nice Guitars: "beautiful hand-rubbed urethane or oil/wax and shellac finishes" ...where's the nitro option? Is shellac the EU term?

I'm a big fan of Scott Lentz guitars. I have two of his Teles, and they are the best I've ever had.

Another vote for Mr Lentz here... I have a sonic blue 50s tele that he made for me, and it is extraordinary.

In fact, I'm saving up right now for another Lentz creation...!

This lentz Tele is an absolute f-in joke! I've tried a ton of Fender's custom shop Broadcasters and there just a huge difference. Maybe a masterbuilt could come close but why spend the extra grand?

This Melancon Tele is the best Tele style guitar I have ever owned-I have owned vintage, booteek, Fender CS, Anderson-you name it. Resonant, light, great neck, sustain, awesome.

Check out G&L guitars (what was better: your very first blues, or your last blues? So what will be better: the first tele Leo designed, or his last? )

I've never cared too much for Tele clones, although I do have a homemade Tele. The Don Grosh copys are rather nice, but different.

Don't forget the nicely overpriced Vintique tele. Three grand for Warmoth body and neck with Vintique hardware.
