I'm thinking about getting one. How do you like yours and how does it differ compared to your normal single coil Tele?

I have the FMT Tele with humbuckers. It doesn't compare to a traditional Tele at all, but still a cool guitar.

P90s here. I love the sound of P90s, all big and beefy sounding!

Highly modified American Tele with Seymour Duncan 59s.
I didn't care for the sound all that much. I found the bass response to be muddy. Otherwise, very cool. Still had a touch of Tele twang.
I parted out most of that guitar and am rebuilding it with a SC in the bridge and humbucker in the neck. I'm a Tele guy and I gotta have the SC bridge p'up.
'04 QMT Tele. Replaced the stock electronics with good pots, a megaswitch, and Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro 'buckers. Now it SCREAMS - and sings, when I want it to :) My other Tele has the same 'bucker in the neck but a SD Five-Two in the bridge. Great pickup.

Curtis, I'd leave the cats out of this...:)
Sorry. All these guitars might be great guitars in their own right. Play nice, sound good (for certain things) but they ain't TELES!Originally Posted by curtisstetka

I'm pretty sure Pete knows I'm just busting his chops. He did call me nuts in another thread so I feel okay in calling him a stodgy mofo.
Sorry to sidetrack the thread.
I think double bucker TELECASTERS are perfectly okay. Leo Fender was a brilliant engineer and continued to refine and update his designs throughout his life. I disagree with the notion of locking onto his original ideas and saying that THAT defines the Telecaster and no deviation is acceptable.
Now personally, my double bucker tele wasn't so hot. I think it was a case of the wrong pickups for what I wanted to hear and perhaps a tone turd body. Hopefully its next incarnation will be more sonically pleasing.
I just like kitties. And if you haven't noticed, we're all nuts!:hee
As far as teles go, check my signature.
I dunno...I think the idea of the "set neck" and double humbuckers really appeals to me.
I like the conventional Tele's and have several, but I'm open to new things.
A P-90 Tele would be cool also'
I ordered a Dualtone 2 pickup from this site for my part-o-tele: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/skgs/sk/pickups.htm#
It hasn't arrived yet so I can't give a review. However, the idea of having a pickup that can do strat, P90, and humbucker is very, very cool. We'll see.
I'm waiting for something even crazier to pop up here, and that is single coil Strat style PU's installed on a Gretch Country Gentleman. Putty in the gaps where the DeArmonds were, re-paint it, and there it is! Still a Gretch, isn't it?
Once Pete changed the p'ups in his guitar, it wasn't no Tele no more. Don't let him kid you. It's his own standard he has to live up to.
Anyway, here is my "T" style guitar with a carved maple top and P90s. It absolutely rips! Humbuckers are OK, but they are far more common than P90s. (which rule by the way)

i've only ever had an hb in the neck of any of my teles, never in the bridge. i just don't think i could give up that snarl that the lead pup has.
"don't worry, i'm a professional!"
I've got an original '73 Tele Deluxe and I don't even play it all that much because the humbucker sound just isn't really my cup of tea. I'd rather deal with a little bit of noise and I prefer single coils over HB's any day of the week.
Normally I'd agree that humbuckers are not "teles" but there were two models BITD that were still "teles" and have other than "that" bridge pickup in them.
Here's mine from 1972:
that guitar is sooo sweet. im about to finish my tele project too!Originally Posted by Tele-Bob

actually it is a really cool looking Telecaster...I'm not getting into the intellectual argument of Pete modding his Japanese Telecaster and making it a Hamelcaster...that's cause I heard a clip he played on it and he makes it sing no matter what it is!
Go TB!:)
Ya gotta like P90s!

Tele-Bob, if you ever want to sell that guitar, I want an option on it.

MIKEH, you are indeed a true P90 aficianado. Us P90 guys are a different breed. LOL!

i have a jorgenson tele with two hums... sounds pretty tele to me...but only compared to my gibsons..
it has that crisp twang but is a bit fatter....and has much more sustain due to the korina body im sure,
but oddly, in the middle position it sounds really really close to my lentz t in the middle position
my point is that the pickup you choose will color the sound and character quite a bit
-if you put in gibsons its not gonna sound like a tele...i have another t with jazzmaster pups and that t doesnt sound anything like a tele
I'd like to have one with the Tele Custom style body in some off the wall color. Double bound with cream binding, rosewood neck and two Seymour Duncan '59s.
I was about to post with a pic of a '72 TELE. Last I checked, IT WAS A FUCKING TELE.Originally Posted by Wilko

Not to me. Don't care what Fender calls it.
My next "Tele" project is going to be.....COPYING TELEBOB'S P90 TELE TO THE "T"

Aw put a sock in it Pete. It's old. And doesn't matter. Don't make me call a dogpile on your geezer ass.
Kevin, I'm honored someone would want to do that. I just jammed the crap out of it last night. When it's plugged into my Rivera, it just doesn't get any better. P90s and carved maple tops rule!

You're welcome....but the idea is that I'm gonna try and do it better than you did:lol See if I can't do Telebob better than Telebob...Originally Posted by Tele-Bob

<---- hehe, my first time seeing a nice clear pic of your Tele Tele Bob. That is freakin' nuts. I will own a dub P90 Tele one day, Koa does sound good Mike.
Hopeless modaholic...
It's OK fezz. It's not getting heavy. I never went in for those smiley things. I figure the threat of a dogpile is enough to diffuse most situations!
