Strat Pickguard.. 8 hole vs 12 hole

Somebody played the HELL out of a Daisy Rock at the last FDP NE Jam. Funny as hell. I forget his name. It was the flower model.

I've tried all the suggestions on this thread and I can't hear a difference! Then I realised! I had earplugs in. Turns out that the extra inertial mass caused my resonant frequency to alter by a few Hertz (taking error into consideration). This in turn took it OUT of the frequency range produced by (and affects of) the standing waves on the strings. Bham! Tone suck.

This thread should go on Mr. Gearhead. The wealth of knowledge is incredible.

I added a 4th and 5th spring to my Trem and readjusted the setup -

I believe it changed the tone. Weather it is a real or percieved change - I did something to "my" axe and believe it is now better.

Of course Chuck-o....
Snake oil is also good for wiping down the freetboard and as a polish.

I Like this strat - - Like I said before....nothing spectacular - just mine. Next is the bone nut and maybe a change to 12s or 13s. I'll start with 12s and see where it goes.

Nickles would have given you a more vintage tone Chumpocaster...

I like my strats without the pickguard. I find it gives a more open airy feeling, plus you don't get the humming sound.

Changing the springs number and tension is a very real way to alter the sound/feel of your strat. I just added a spring to mine because I read your post. It's got a sharper attack now. And less sag on hard hit chords.

I ALWAYS PLAY MY STRATS WITH THE TREMS CLAMPED DOWN TO THE BODY. BE THAT WITH A PIECE OF WOOD, 5 SPRINGS, OR THOSE SCREWS YOU SAW IN ONE. I LIKE THE TONE BETTER THAT WAY.

I always have my trems flat on the body too.

The caps lock helps cut through the mix.

I just started floating my Trems again. I've found a way to work with them that they seem to stay in tune really well. 5 springs in them all, of course.

But I had to change my way of thinking on how to tune them, and then floating was not so bad.

Ok - True to my word -

I installed 12s, did not do the nut yet......

12s.....
Man - I was not expecting this.....
made the adjustments in height, etc.....

I new they would be heavy.....I can't imaging how some of you folks do it....and those of you who do 13s.......My hat is off to you.

I will leave them on and play....see if I can get used to them. I'm glad I have two other axes with 10s.....for my tender little dick-beaters !

Nice tone with the JV (jimmie V) pups, but tough to play. action is low and clean, just VERY Stiff !

It really does have good single string tone, but I have to push with both feet for bends !
