Re: The What Amp did you play through today Thread
I play through a Mesa Express 5:25 most of the time when I practice at home. It's nothing like the Boogie shown here, but it does have a nice clean sound and great reverb. I have a Princeton Reverb right next to it and often choose the Mesa, depending on the sound I want. The Mesa can be thinner, thicker, cleaner and dirtier than the PR and the reverb can be turned up higher. The PR has a nice fat clean sound.
I'd like a MKII but can't deal with the weight. A head and cab would be nice, but my old Mesa EVM12L Thiele cab weighed more then the Express 5:25- as much as my Vibrolux Reverb!

I played my '65 closet classic strat through that amp and boy howdie did that sound great. Had a JBL greyback in it. HEAVY. 60/100 watts, four 6L6s. believe me, I thought about that amp for months.
for the most part, I don't care how they sound the way most people use them. that said, I don't care for how a lot of people set their marshalls either so it isn't really a brand thing.
ah, my II is an A from 1979.
EVM12L in it though. And yes, it's VERY heavy.

The mighty Mesa Thiele cab!!!! I played a 100 watt head through mine last gig outside un-mic'd. Most controlled sound I've had in a long time.
I have the EV-200 watt speaker in mine.
Re: The What Amp did you play through today Thread
The Thiele is a neat cab. I have considered getting another. It's great to lug after working with larger cabs.
I gotta admit I have been playing this one more than anything for the months since I got it. Fender '57 Pro. The 15" speaker reminded me why I used them (15" JBL's actually) 35 years ago almost exclusively. If you have never played a guitar through a 15 you really NEED to. They open things up which must be heard. The Pro has a tone that is almost as pretty as a Bassman and with either I like the sound without pushing them to distortion. The cleans have just enough hair to be pretty and harmonic without being sterile.

Re: The What Amp did you play through today Thread
Today I'm testing out some pedal clones I built, a Bluesbreaker and Emerson Em Drive I added a clipping switch to. Both sound great and the clipping diodes really brought the Em Drive to life!!! I split my signal with an old Ibanez delay, set completely wet no repeats and about 10-15ms of delay. Then into my JetCity 333 powering a 2X12 loaded with Greenbacks and the other side was my Matchless Lightning clone powering a Jensen 60 watt 12". My FilterTron Tele is absolutely KILLING it!!! Great 60/70's rock tones in the Zeppelin and AC/DC vein... My 59 type Tele puts me into the Heartbreakers territory

I miss that one. I have a couple of amps now that would sound great with it.

You can still get them. And cheap for what it is really. And better deals can be found.

Today I'm playing through my Vox AC15 and Orange BH Terror.

I know it's not sexy, but I've been playing my new little Positive Grid Spark MINI. It sits on the table and automatically shuts off when I'm not using it after a while. The array of different sounds and effects it produces is startlingly amazing!

Re: The What Amp did you play through today Thread
Today I took a break from my current bass related gigs and spent some time exploring an idea with my Fractal and guitar. Looking to build a switch based environment where I can bring in harmonies.
While I want to explore Allman Bros harmonies, Queen is an easier task to learn to. It requires specific note detection unique to each key you may play in.
Its a start of a journey on this, and the good thing is I have no deadline.
There was a song or 2 the other week where I heard this in my head. Next time it comes up, I’m looking to be prepared.
Wait till they hear this LOL.

There are a few scenes in this clip I used as my launch point for this endeavor.
