Fuzz and Wah pedal recommendations?
I'm thinkin about getting a fuzz and a Wah prdal for Christmas. Any recommendations? For the Wah pedal I just want something simple and good with true bypass. Not sure about the fuzz but I like the fuzz sounds from the likes of the (early) White Stripes, Black Keys, and Hendrix.
I'm thinking about a Dunlop Cry Baby (don't need anything fancy as I won't be using it all that often) and a Fulltone '69 fuzz unless there are good cheaper fuzz options.
Re: Fuzz and Wah pedal recommendations?
I love the Fulltone Clyde and '69 Pedal. There are so many choices though!
Re: Fuzz and Wah pedal recommendations?
Do you have any experience with a Cry Baby or a used Vox Clyde McCoy reissue? I just don't think I'll be using a wah pedal enough to justify the Fulltone wah.
The 69 mk2, however, I do think I'll get.
Re: Fuzz and Wah pedal recommendations?
I've never tried the TB versions on the Cry Baby or Vox. The best wah I've had was a used Fulltone Clyde Std. (older model with deck tape) that I bought for about $100. I traded it for a Teese and really preferred the Fulltone. I have a Fulltone Clyde Deluxe (molded tread) now but preferred the older Clyde Std.
You probably would've liked the Budda Bud-Wah that I just let go cheap. :-(

I love my Vox V-847a Wah - sounds natural and expressive; didn't break the bank; responds well to my motions...
I doubt that it's true bypass though. But I'm not sure that matters all that much when you're pairing it with fuzz...

That's my price range and what I was looking for. It's an effect I'll hardly use, just to mess around with Voodoo Child, a bit of funk, and a few other songs occasionally, so I just can't justify spending $200+. If I can get what you said for under $100, that's perfect.
Re: Fuzz and Wah pedal recommendations?
I'm a CryBaby Classic kind of guy. Maybe not really the case for everyone, but I associate CryBabys with a lot of raunchy humbucker-driven 1970s British blues rock and Voxs more with clean funk. And porn. :sun
I just got a Big Muff Pi with Tone Wicker that's a lot of fun. Adds a ton of gain and sustain, but it's versatile with the extra switches and nails a lot of Black Keys/White Stripes. "She's Long Gone" especially.
Good luck!
Re: Fuzz and Wah pedal recommendations?
I have a Classic Crybaby and a Vox 845. I like the sound of the Crybaby, but the sweep is a bit too trebly for my taste (if that makes sense.) I had read that Jimi rotated the pot inside to get a deeper tone, so I tried that, and it helped, but not quite enough. I still pull it out every so often, but I prefer the Vox.
