Anyone try this with a modern Fender amp?

It's cheap. Probably just load resistory thingy (no I don't know what I'm talking about) but if it helps to make the amp sound thick and not buzzy distortion, it'd be cool with me.

It's just a pot wired to two jacks that adjusts the signal from the pre-out and power-in jacks. A volume pedal does the same thing. You could build one from Radio Shack parts.

Well that'd be cool'n all, but this thing is 10 bucks + shipping. In my jeep, it'd cost me that to drive to Radio Shack, let alone buy the stuff.

That was built out of Radio Shack Parts. You would do better to replace the master volume pot with an audio taper pot in your HRDx.

If your amp already has a master volume, it wouldn't do anything for you that the MV wouldn't do. It needs an effects loop too, and most amps with loops also have master volumes.

The amp does have an FX loop, but I believe that putting a volume pedal in the loop can and does have a different effect than trimming the MV would have.

Some amps only have MVs on the 'drive' channel, so a pot like the one I show will work on both channels. Also, the loops are buffered when something's plugged in, which may have a small effect on the sound. The taper on the HRDs MV is difficult to control, some change it to a audio taper pot, but this will also work without having to get inside the amp and changing the pot.

Hi guys, first post on the forum. I built one from the plans on Justin's site with parts from Radio Shack. Costs about $10 to build and about 15 min. of time (if you know how to solder) and your ready to plug in. I think it works pretty good and worth doing. If anything, it tames the volume a ton on a HRDX! :arhhh: Good quick fix. Would be better to replace the volume controls but don't have the time! :wife:

I have done this using a volume pedal (same thing). It works, but I didn't like it.

Try a stomp box before the amp and dial down the level from there.

Replacing the Master Volume pot works as well, but that's only good if you like your drive channel. I don't.
