My Road Worn Jazz Got a Playmate : )
A friend had this for several years, and in MULTIPLE discussions, I had asked if he ever intended to get rid of it......
Well......that day came.

This one is SO different from the Sunburst - a wider tonal pallet, subtly larger neck (both width and depth). Haven't had it long enough to do anything yet - but may put in an update at some point.
Just thought I would share this.....

As my Irish friend Stuart says, NOICE! (nice!).

Re: My Road Worn Jazz Got a Playmate : )
I had to shim the neck - at the headstock side fo the neck pocket - the neck angle just wasn't quite right for me. YMMV - but now, it seems more gooder.
WIll let that settle in a couple of days, and I intonated it and adjusted pups/action again. Seems better - used a little 0000 steel wool on back of the neck - didn't take all the finish, but some of the "speckle" feel off. it is more satin like now, but will re-gloss quickly, after playing, oils, rubbing etc....... Truss is at the point where I will prolly tweek it back and forth over the next weeks until it is right and settled. tone is great, feel is great, better now with the subtle neck angle change, and also adjusted string spacing more for me.
This is another "ME" bass.....I believe. I will probably start selling off a couple of the "NOT ME" ones I have......they just aren't getting played. they are nice, just not seeing stage time.

WHOA!!! :dude I love the color, I almost bought a CS J that looked like that. Totally regret not doing so... If it were mine, and I'm just throwing it out there, I'd swap it over to be a "stack knob"! Not that'd I'd ever really use all the functionality, but I think they're simply the coolest.
Congrats on the new bass buddy!!! :dude :salud::dude

one picture showed and the other didn't, were they both the same guitar?

Re: My Road Worn Jazz Got a Playmate : )
I keep going back to look at it. I love it, and it just struck me that two of the reasons I love the look of Jazz Basses--that smaller neck at the nut and the groovy body shape.

oooo-kaaay
you want to know how bad my eyesight is? When I looked at the second picture (first one is dead killed by photobucket) I saw the sunburst jazz bass on the left and DIDN'T see the fiesta red bass just to the right. Today I saw ch willy's comment so I looked again and this time saw that there were two basses in the picture. I am slightly horrified. This is not the first time that has happened. Close up I have this ridiculously narrow field of view.

Dan - its not that bad - it happens man -
just so you know - I have it happen too and supposedly don't have "an issue"

Re: My Road Worn Jazz Got a Playmate : )
OK - so if anyone is following this -
I installed a set of LaBella Flats I had that had [U]very[U] little play on them. Set up, intonated and played......
Ok - this is getting closer to being mine at this point. I may have some live clips this weekend - doing a duo thing with a friend Friday night outside - lets see if any decent video is captured. This is definitely a different animal from my band. songwriter/singer and he asked me to help him on this one. I have a lot of material to learn and most of it is fun. I look forward to the opportunity.

Played it last night at a jam - felt AWESOME.
Not very happy with the sound. That is why I took the LaBellas off of two other basses, but thought i would try them again.
TI's or Chromes going on it today - for tomorrows show. or maybe I will just use another bass and change the strings this weekend.

Re: My Road Worn Jazz Got a Playmate : )
Got some flats still in the shipping envelope from Strings Etc, can't remember if they're LaBella or some other brand. Been waiting for a completed bass to put them on. Now I really regret not buying that Fiesta Red Squier CV60 P Bass at the Music Mill. Little did I know that they would be discontinued and basically double in price and be as available as hen's teeth.

Kenny, how do you feel about the pickups? What kind are they, anyway?

I think that these are great stock Basses and have no desire to change a thing, but the strings and setup.
I played it again last night and think I have it just about dialed in. for me anyway.
again - I wasn't after a fiesta red - but it is growing on me - and definitely stands out in photots

That's why a bass is important--it is all about the music.

Re: My Road Worn Jazz Got a Playmate : )
As a freebie, I play a U-Bass with a church ukulele group. The first few weeks were tough. The group had a Hawaiian level of rhythm, which is to say, speed up when the music is easy, slow down when the music is complex or the words are hard to say. Getting them to stay within a reasonable tempo was... trying.
Occasionally, top Hawaiian uke players and singers would join a practice. Often these players were strictly soloists, so many have a Laura Nyro attitude toward tempo. I found it as difficult to play bass as I had the one gig where I played behind John Lee Hooker. After I was failing on two tunes and kind of laying out, one of these Hawaiian ukesters spoke up: "Hey, mister bassman, play louder and keep the beat strong. It give the hula dancers something to shake their hips to! It's betta for me, too."
So now I keep a solid tempo and force the group to play together. It may not be tight, but the hula sistas appreciate it.

When the hula sistas are happy, everyone is happy!
