120V or 125 on Power Tranny Primary?
I did the swap, the 5E3 is OUT of the Sunn combo, and the Cygnus 5 watt lead head is in it. Sounds grand.
So I went back to working on the 5E3, which is now in a head chassis.
I had to change power transformers.
So, it has multiple primaries, with 120V or 125V as two of the many options.
I'm thinking 125, but what do I know?
Which should I use?
Re: 120V or 125 on Power Tranny Primary?
125V. I always do mine for 240V even though wall voltage is usually around 232V. Within low margins, lower voltage than the PT is expecting is less likely to hurt anything than higher.
Re: 120V or 125 on Power Tranny Primary?
check what's coming out of your wall. anymore these days it's 120V+. a club i used to work at was constantly 127V out the wall, scary stuff for amps that were made to run on 112-115V.
Re: 120V or 125 on Power Tranny Primary?
I'm blessed with a very steady 117V by my meters.
I could try both and see what the b+ looks like.

What if you wire it for 120V and take it to your friend's house where his voltage is 128V or something?

Good question.
Punch him in the mouth for having "bad power"?
:D
I'm going with the blue wire, not the brown one.
125 it is!
